“I enjoy my job because it encompasses a diverse population of patients and problems,” says Joe Heckenkamp of his career as a physician assistant. “I get to communicate on a personal level with patients and devote much of my day to coordinating their care.”Heckenkamp obtained his degree in Physician Assistant Studies from UW Madison Medical School and is board certified through the NCCPA (National Commission of Certification for Physician Assistants). He now enjoys working as a mid-level medical provider under his supervising physicians. His duties as an extended provider include hospital rounds, history and physicals, performing injections, assisting the surgeon in surgical procedures, ordering diagnostic and imaging studies and clinical hours.
Heckenkamp believes strongly in the team at Excel Orthopedics and appreciates the camaraderie. When he is not at work, Joe enjoys spending time with his family.
